Kenya is set to pay $30 million (approximately KSh 3.9 billion) as its contribution toward co-hosting next year's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Uganda and Tanzania. The payment, due by April 2026, is a crucial step in the country's preparations to host the prestigious tournament.

The three East African countries were selected to co-host the 2027 AFCON, marking a significant milestone for the region. Kenya's Local Organising Committee (LOC) chairman, Nicholas Musonye, has emphasized the importance of timely payment to ensure the country's credibility as a host.

The funds will be used to upgrade and construct modern stadiums, improve infrastructure, and enhance the overall tournament experience. Kenya's venues, including the 60,000-seater Talanta Sports City and the 48,000-seater Moi International Sports Centre, are undergoing renovations to meet CAF standards.

CAF president Patrice Motsepe has expressed confidence in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania's ability to host a successful AFCON, citing the region's potential to showcase African culture and football.
