In a statement addressing public concern, KRA said the messages are part of its effort to improve tax compliance and remind taxpayers to review their information on the iTax platform. “The SMS notifications are reminders to taxpayers to log into their iTax accounts and confirm their tax position,” the authority said.
KRA noted that some taxpayers may have unfiled returns or unpaid balances that need to be addressed to avoid penalties. The authority urged recipients of the messages to act promptly. “Taxpayers who have outstanding returns should file them immediately, while those with pending liabilities are encouraged to settle the remaining dues,” KRA stated.
The authority also reassured the public that the messages are legitimate and part of its normal communication with taxpayers. “These reminders are aimed at enhancing voluntary compliance and helping taxpayers regularize their records,” KRA added.
KRA further advised taxpayers experiencing difficulties accessing their accounts or understanding their tax status to seek help through official support channels.
“We encourage taxpayers to update their records and reach out to KRA support if they need assistance with filing returns or confirming their tax obligations,” the authority said.
