Zimbabwean nationals Bellarmine Mugabe and Tobias Matonhodze are set to seek bail at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The two made a brief appearance in the same court last week, where the matter was postponed to allow for further investigations.
The charges stem from a shooting at the Hyde Park residence of the son of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe. During the incident, a 23-year-old man believed to be an employee at the home was shot and later hospitalised.
The accused face charges of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and illegal possession of a firearm. The weapon allegedly used in the shooting has yet to be recovered.
Private investigator Mike Bolhuis maintains that the disappearance of the firearm does not weaken the prosecution’s case. He suggested that if the weapon cannot be found, it could point to corruption among those present at the scene. According to him, anyone involved in concealing evidence should be investigated and potentially charged, as the missing firearm raises concerns of possible collusion, bribery, or intimidation.
Bolhuis emphasized that the case will not collapse simply because the firearm has not been recovered, adding that accountability will extend to all those implicated.
