Nairobi County Assembly Members (MCAs) are pushing to remove Governor Johnson Sakaja from office, citing 22 charges against him. The MCAs, led by Deputy Minority Leader Waithera Chege, claim they have collected enough signatures to table an impeachment motion. The charges include corruption, misuse of public funds, misconduct, and failure to fulfill campaign promises.

The impeachment bid follows the County Assembly's approval of a cooperation agreement between Nairobi County Government and the National Government. Chege stated that the MCAs were ready to present the motion but were thwarted by the Clerk's absence. The Speaker has promised to facilitate presentation tomorrow by 10 am.

The MCAs have been critical of Sakaja's leadership, citing delays in disbursing bursaries and stalled Ward Development Fund projects. They accuse him of neglecting Nairobi residents' needs and ignoring ward priorities. This is the second impeachment attempt against Sakaja, with the first being shelved in September 2025 after intervention from former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President William Ruto.
