Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called for the accelerated implementation of projects under the Nairobi Rising Programme, saying the government must deliver on its commitments within the remaining 13 months before residents evaluate its performance.
Speaking after chairing the Third Joint Steering Committee meeting on the implementation of the National Government–Nairobi City County Government Cooperation Agreement, Mudavadi stressed the importance of meeting agreed timelines.
“We have to ensure what is to be achieved within the set timeline is done. In the next 13 months, Nairobians will have an opportunity to interrogate what we have done for them from the promises we made,” Mudavadi said.
Focus on Project Delivery
Mudavadi said the Nairobi Rising Programme aims to transform the capital through coordinated efforts between the national and county governments. He emphasized that all implementing agencies must prioritize timely execution of projects to improve service delivery for city residents.
Key Development Areas
According to Mudavadi, ongoing projects under the programme focus on:
Water and sanitation
Roads and transport infrastructure
Street lighting
Security
Markets
Drainage systems
Urban connectivity
The projects are intended to improve mobility, enhance public safety, strengthen sanitation services and boost Nairobi's overall quality of life.
KSh80 Billion Investment
The Nairobi Rising Programme has an investment portfolio estimated at KSh80 billion. It is being implemented under a cooperation agreement signed between the National Government and the Nairobi City County Government in February 2026.
The programme seeks to modernize Nairobi, improve public services, attract investment and enhance the city's competitiveness through joint implementation of major infrastructure projects.
Progress Monitoring
Mudavadi said the Joint Steering Committee will continue monitoring implementation and agreed that future meetings will include a comprehensive Presidential Progress Report detailing completed projects, pending commitments and areas requiring further intervention.
He reiterated that urgency, accountability and coordinated action are essential to ensure Nairobi residents see tangible results within the set timeline.
