WASHINGTON -Donald Trump confirmed today that the United States has begun what he described as “major combat operations” inside Iran, marking a sharp escalation in tensions between the two nations.

In a brief address from the White House, President Trump said the military action was aimed at “protecting American interests and stopping immediate threats.” He did not provide full details about the targets or the scope of the operation but said US forces were carrying out precision strikes.

“We will defend our people and our allies,” Trump said. “Our military is fully prepared.”

                                                 Pentagon Confirms Military Action
Shortly after the President’s remarks, the Pentagon confirmed that US forces had launched coordinated air and naval strikes. Officials said the operations were focused on specific military facilities. They declined to say how long the campaign would continue.A senior defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the action followed intelligence reports of what the US described as “credible and imminent threats.”

                                                   Iran Responds
Iranian state media reported explosions in several areas but did not immediately confirm the extent of the damage. Iranian officials called the US action “an act of aggression” and warned of consequences. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

                                                   Global Reaction

World leaders are urging calm as fears grow that the conflict could spread across the region. Oil prices rose sharply in early trading following the announcement, reflecting concerns about stability in the Middle East. The United Nations said it is closely monitoring the situation and called for restraint from all sides.

                                                  What Happens Next

Military analysts say the coming hours will be critical. If Iran retaliates, the conflict could widen quickly. The US has placed additional forces in the region in recent weeks, signaling preparation for possible escalation.

The White House said President Trump will meet with national security advisers later today. Congress is expected to be briefed behind closed doors.

This is a developing story. More details will follow as information becomes available.
