President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officially welcomed Charlene Ruto, the First Daughter of Kenya and youth leader, in Kampala today as she commenced her official visit to Uganda. The high-level engagement took place at State Lodge, Nakasero, where the two leaders discussed ways to enhance regional cooperation and economic collaboration

Museveni emphasised the importance of value addition in Africa’s industries, especially in sectors like leather and agribusiness, underscoring that processing raw materials locally is key to job creation and retaining wealth within the region. He welcomed Ms Ruto’s interest in investing and fostering business partnerships across East Africa

Focus on Youth, Investment and Regional Progress 
During the meeting, Ruto briefed President Museveni on her youth empowerment and developmental initiatives, highlighting her involvement in business and advocacy for regional engagement. 
In a related gathering, both President Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni also held talks with Charlene and her delegation about boosting youth job opportunities, deepening investment ties, and building stronger regional economic links between Uganda and Kenya in areas such as agribusiness and value chains. 

Diplomatic and Cultural Interactions 
Prior to meeting the president, Charlene was hosted by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, in a courtesy visit to the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe. The encounter highlighted ongoing friendly diplomatic ties and cultural exchanges between Ugandan and Kenyan leadership circles
