Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sharply criticized the Kenyan government over the handling of President William Ruto’s security arrangements. He pointed out that the safety of the President is vital for national stability, especially with opposition parties aiming to unseat Ruto through electoral means. Gachagua expressed concerns over alleged security lapses and the morale of the Presidential Escort Unit, revealing significant issues within the security apparatus.

Gachagua Alleges Demoralisation and Security Concerns

He claimed that the Presidential Escort Unit is suffering from low morale, corruption, and ethnic biases. Gachagua further alleged that officers in the unit are unpaid and that there are demands for a share of officers' allowances. He emphasized the need for the officers to be paid their dues and called for professional service, asserting that the security detail should be free from political interference.

In addition, Gachagua criticized the security leadership, describing the Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen as "naive, childish, and juvenile," arguing that maturity and professionalism are essential qualities for effective leadership in security matters. He also accused security chiefs of struggling to brief Murkomen and suggested that some officials should have resigned after recent security incidents.

Beyond security, Gachagua lamented political issues, warning that any attempt to undermine the President could trigger a crisis of great magnitude. He also voiced concern over rising divisive politics under Ruto’s administration and urged electoral officials to safeguard the integrity of the upcoming 2027 General Election, cautioning against election theft and calling on Ruto to publicly commit to accepting election results.

Gachagua’s comments come amid ongoing debates about security, political stability, and governance in Kenya. His remarks underscore the tensions within the current administration and spotlight the urgent need for reforms within the security forces to restore morale and public confidence.
