The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has clarified why 2025 cut-off points are absent from its portal, even as the deadline for course applications draws closer.

In a statement addressing growing concern among candidates, KUCCPS said the cut-off points for 2025 cannot be released yet because they are not predetermined—they are generated after the placement process is complete

According to the placement agency, cut-off points reflect the cluster weight of the last student admitted into a specific course. This means the figures depend entirely on how applicants perform and how competitive each programme becomes during the selection process.

“Cut-off points for 2025 will be known at the end of the current placement process,” KUCCPS explained, noting that students are ranked from highest to lowest scores before available slots are filled.

Why Students Can’t See 2025 Cut-Offs Yet.

KUCCPS emphasized that the system is merit-based and dynamic. Since applications are still ongoing, the final threshold for each course cannot be calculated in advance. Instead, it will emerge once all applicants have been evaluated and placed.

This also explains why cut-off points often vary yearly—even for the same course or university—depending on demand and available capacity.

What Applicants Should Use Instead

With no 2025 cut-off data available, KUCCPS has advised candidates to rely on previous years’ cut-off points as a guide when selecting courses.

However, the agency cautioned that meeting or exceeding past cut-offs does not guarantee placement, as competition levels may shift.

Placement Deadline Pressure Mounts.

The clarification comes as thousands of 2025 KCSE candidates race against time to submit their applications for university and college placement in the 2026/2027 intake.

KUCCPS continues to urge students to carefully review their cluster points, course requirements, and programme competitiveness before making final selections.

Bottom line.

There’s no missing data—just a system that only reveals its cut-offs once the competition is over.
