President William Ruto has intensified his development tour of Migori County with a series of pledges and inspections targeting key sectors, including healthcare, water, and medical training. The Head of State, who inspected the ongoing construction of Kegonga Hospital, announced a KSh 300 million allocation towards the completion and equipping of the facility, describing it as part of a broader push to strengthen healthcare delivery across the country.

“We are investing in healthcare infrastructure to ensure that every Kenyan can access quality services closer to home,” President Ruto said during the inspection, adding that the government is focused on expanding and upgrading facilities at the grassroots to reduce pressure on referral hospitals. He emphasized that completion of the hospital will significantly improve maternal, emergency, and outpatient services in the region.

The President’s visit also highlighted ongoing developments linked to the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), where new hostel facilities have been constructed. Leaders accompanying the President praised the investment, noting that improved student accommodation will enhance training capacity for future healthcare professionals. “These facilities are critical in ensuring that our students learn in a conducive environment, which directly translates to better service delivery in our hospitals,” a local leader noted.

Water infrastructure also featured prominently during the tour, with President Ruto announcing a KSh 380 million commitment to complete the Gokeharaka Water Project. The project is expected to expand access to clean and reliable water for thousands of residents in Migori County. He reiterated that access to water remains a key pillar in improving both health outcomes and economic productivity, stating, “Water is fundamental to life, and we are committed to ensuring no community is left behind.”

In addition, the President reaffirmed government support for the Intimaru Water Project, which is part of a wider network of initiatives aimed at addressing water scarcity in the region. Officials say the project will support both domestic use and agricultural activities, boosting food security and livelihoods.

During the inspection, the President also reviewed other ongoing development works in Kegonga and its surroundings, including road and supporting infrastructure projects designed to improve accessibility and stimulate local economic activity. Leaders present commended the progress, describing the developments as transformative for the region. “These investments are not just projects; they are a promise of better living standards for our people,”
