Lodwar, Kenya — Lodwar County Referral Hospital has received a consignment of essential medical supplies valued at Sh57 million, a move expected to significantly strengthen healthcare delivery and sustain critical services at the facility for the next eight months.
The supplies, procured through the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), include a wide range of essential medicines, laboratory reagents, non-pharmaceutical items, and specialized renal care materials. Health officials say the delivery comes at a crucial time, as the hospital continues to serve a growing patient population from Turkana County and neighboring regions.
“This consignment is a major boost for us,” said a senior hospital administrator. “It ensures continuity of care, especially for patients who rely on life-saving treatments such as dialysis and routine laboratory diagnostics.”
County health authorities emphasized that the supplies will address persistent shortages that have previously strained service delivery. The inclusion of renal care supplies is particularly significant, given the increasing number of patients requiring dialysis services at the facility.
“We are committed to ensuring that our people receive uninterrupted healthcare,” a county health official said. “With this stock, we can guarantee availability of essential medicines and improve overall patient outcomes.”
The consignment also includes non-pharmaceutical items such as gloves, syringes, and other medical consumables critical for day-to-day hospital operations. Laboratory reagents delivered in the shipment are expected to enhance diagnostic capacity, enabling faster and more accurate testing.
