TSC Chairperson Jamleck Muturi has announced a significant salary increase for teachers, which is scheduled to take effect from July. The announcement comes amid active efforts by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to improve the welfare of teachers across the country.
Government Allocates Ksh8.4 Billion for Teachers' Salary Increase and Promotions
Muturi confirmed that the government has allocated Ksh8.4 billion to facilitate the salary boost, demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing teachers' remuneration. The funds will also support the promotion of more than 30,000 teachers, with advertisements expected in the coming weeks after the TSC received an additional Ksh2 billion from the National Treasury.
Furthermore, the commission has secured funding to employ 24,000 Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers on permanent and pensionable terms, addressing critical staffing needs in the education sector.
Muturi specified that the upcoming promotions would target teachers across various job groups, from C2 to D5, covering grades C2, C3, D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5. This move aims to recognize the hard work of teachers and improve morale across the educational workforce.
These developments are part of the broader efforts by the Teachers Service Commission to enhance the quality of education and support teachers' career progression. The initiatives are seen as steps towards revitalizing the sector and ensuring that teachers are motivated and adequately compensated for their crucial role in national development.
