Kenyan Premier League clubs are facing a major challenge this weekend as both Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums, traditionally regarded as home grounds for AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia, are unavailable due to renovations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The closure of these iconic stadiums has left the two giants without a home, forcing them to seek alternative venues for their matches. AFC Leopards chairman Boniface Ambani has urged the clubs to invest in their own stadiums and training facilities, warning that dependence on government infrastructure is a major handicap.

The renovations are expected to affect over 30 matches, with Kasarani hosting 18 matches and Nyayo hosting 16 matches in the upcoming fixtures. Other venues, including MISC Kasarani Annex, Police Sacco Stadium, and Ulinzi Sports Complex, may also be closed for renovation, further exacerbating the venue crisis.

Sports Minister Salim Mvurya has assured that Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums will be ready for use by the end of the year, but the current situation has thrown the league's schedule into disarray.
