DP Kindiki Arrives in Uganda for Museveni’s Inauguration Ceremony

Kenya’s Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has arrived in Uganda to represent President William Ruto at the inauguration ceremony of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, in a high-profile regional event expected to draw several East African leaders and dignitaries.

Prof. Kindiki departed Nairobi on Tuesday morning for Entebbe ahead of the swearing-in event scheduled to take place at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala. In a statement shared before his departure, the Deputy President confirmed that he would lead Kenya’s delegation during the ceremony on behalf of President Ruto.

President Museveni, 81, was re-elected earlier this year for a seventh term after securing victory in Uganda’s January 2026 general election. According to official election results, Museveni garnered more than 71 percent of the vote, defeating his closest challenger, opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

Kenya’s participation in the inauguration highlights the close diplomatic and economic ties between Nairobi and Kampala. The two East African nations continue to cooperate on regional trade, security, infrastructure development and integration under the East African Community framework.

President Ruto had earlier congratulated Museveni following the declaration of the election results, describing the victory as a reflection of the Ugandan people’s confidence in his leadership and expressing Kenya’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta is also among regional leaders and dignitaries attending the high-profile ceremony in Kampala.
