Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has underscored the importance of Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) in promoting development and improving service delivery across the country.
Speaking on the role of MCAs, Murkomen said their responsibilities extend beyond their constitutional mandates of representation, legislation and oversight. He noted that they are key agents of development and social change at the community level.
"Beyond their constitutional roles of representation, legislation and oversight, MCAs are critical agents of development and social change at the community level. Their close interactions with wananchi enrich them with important insights on development and service delivery priorities at the grassroots," Murkomen said.
Close Contact With Communities
According to the Cabinet Secretary, MCAs are uniquely positioned to understand the needs and priorities of local communities because of their frequent engagement with residents.
He said this close relationship enables them to identify challenges affecting citizens and advocate for development projects and improved public services that respond to the needs of the people.
Strengthening Grassroots Development
Murkomen emphasized that effective collaboration between MCAs, county governments and the national government is essential in accelerating development and ensuring public resources are directed towards projects that have the greatest impact on local communities.
His remarks highlight the important role county legislators play in advancing devolution and ensuring that the voices of wananchi are reflected in policy implementation and development planning at the grassroots level.
