MEXICO CITY, June 5, 2026 – Global music stars Shakira and Burna Boy are set to headline the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, FIFA has confirmed. The two artists will perform “Dai Dai,” the tournament’s official song, ahead of the opening match scheduled for June 11 at Mexico City Stadium (formerly Estadio Azteca). The performance will mark the first live rendition of the song on the world stage and is expected to be one of the highlights of the tournament’s opening celebrations. 

According to FIFA, the opening ceremony will begin approximately 90 minutes before kickoff and will feature a lineup of internationally renowned musicians representing different regions and musical genres. The event is designed to celebrate football, culture, and global unity as the tournament gets underway.

Star-Studded Entertainment Lineup

In addition to Shakira and Burna Boy, the ceremony is expected to feature performances by several artists from the official FIFA World Cup 2026 music project, including J Balvin, Tyla, Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, Lila Downs, Maná and Los Ángeles Azules. 

Shakira’s Continued World Cup Legacy
Shakira’s participation continues her long association with FIFA World Cup tournaments. The Colombian superstar gained worldwide acclaim for performing “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Her return to the tournament’s global stage adds another chapter to her football-related musical legacy. 

Tournament Set to Begin
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by Mexico, United States and Canada. The expanded tournament will feature 48 teams and run from June 11 to July 19, making it the largest World Cup in FIFA history. 
With millions of fans expected to tune in worldwide, the opening ceremony is set to combine music and sport in a celebration marking the start of football’s biggest tournament.
