President William Ruto has declared an end to the contentious Mau Forest eviction saga after disbursing Ksh 2.6 billion to 13,000 affected families. Each family received Ksh 200,000 as part of the government's effort to address the displacement caused during the campaign to reclaim and protect the Mau Forest complex.

"Hii ndiyo awamu ya mwisho ya kufunga kabisa chapter ya mambo ya Mau. Wale watu elfu mia tatu waliotolewa msitu wapata pesa yao," Ruto stated in a recent address, reaffirming his administration's commitment to resolving the long-standing issue.
The government has faced scrutiny over the eviction process, with critics arguing that displaced families were inadequately compensated and left to struggle post-eviction. However, the payout is seen as a significant step toward rebuilding lives and fostering trust in government initiatives.
