Several U.S. East Coast states have declared a state of emergency and restricted non-essential travel as a powerful snowstorm sweeps through the region.
Authorities say weather conditions continue to worsen, prompting governors in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts to urge residents to remain indoors for safety.
In New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani ordered the closure of streets to non-essential vehicles, while public schools announced a snow day as forecasters predict up to 50 centimeters of snowfall.
The severe weather has also disrupted air travel, with thousands of flights either delayed or canceled. The United Nations Headquarters confirmed that only essential personnel would be allowed on-site during the storm.
Meteorologists have described the system as a “bomb cyclone,” warning it could trigger blizzard-like whiteout conditions through Monday morning.
